BASED IN ITALY

Harita Asumani, born in 1992 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria is a visual artist who divides her time between Bulgaria and Italy. She completed her studies at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, specializing in Stage and Costume Design. Although she didn’t pursue a professional career in this field, she incorporates much of her academic knowledge into her artistic endeavors.

Harita strongly identifies with the principles of Stage Design, believing that ideas and meanings have to shape the outcome. This belief significantly influences her creative process, and she begins by expressing her thoughts, life events, and positions on various topics through text. Then she continues with concrete visuals corresponding to her ideas.

She realized her first significant solo exhibition titled ‘Existence Minimum’ in 2018. As a result of her presentation, Harita was selected by the Goethe Institut and Credo Bonum for the ‘Art Start’ program in 2019, which focuses on young authors to watch. With her participation in the activist exhibitions FORMS in AETHER and HOMOSOC in PORT A in Sofia in 2019, she stands in support of the LGBTQ community and Sofia Pride.

The author exhibits a keen affinity for delving into the emotional realm of humanity, beginning with her own self-reflection. It’s not by chance that the majority of her works are self-portraits. She displays a fascination with psychology and philosophy, utilizing them as tools to bolster the argumentation within her works.
