Biography
HARITA ASUMANI
A VISUAL ARTIST FROM BULGARIA
ORIGINS TANZANIA, BASED IN ITALY
Harita Asumani (b. 1992, Plovdiv, Bulgaria) is a visual artist based between Bulgaria and Italy. She studied Stage and Costume Design at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, an education that continues to inform her artistic practice. While she expanded her focus beyond stage design, its principles—where ideas and meaning shape the outcome—remain central to her work.
Her creative process often begins with writing as a way to articulate thoughts, experiences, and positions on social issues, which she later translates into visual form. Psychology and philosophy play a strong role in her approach, adding depth and critical context to her artistic language.
In 2018, Asumani presented her first solo exhibition Existence Minimum. The following year, she was selected for Art Start, a program by the Goethe-Institut and Credo Bonum Foundation spotlighting emerging artists. In 2019 she also took part in activist exhibitions such as FORMS in AETHER and HOMOSOC in Sofia, affirming her support for the LGBTQ community and Sofia Pride.
Her work frequently explores the emotional dimensions of human experience through self-portraiture, reflecting both personal introspection and broader social narratives.
